Is this possible with this plugin to also generate a thumbnail of a PDF to display for instance as an excerpt in an article, with the full navigable PDF being in the article body?

Hello Julien Pham,
Yes, sure. This is how the plugin works now – the first page is saved as wordpress built-in featured image. Then you could use that featured image anywhere you want We for example use it in PDF Archive in our PRO Addon – http://pdf-light-viewer.wp.teamlead.pw/pdfs-archive/
